Thank you for writing, I read it yesterday but it stuck with me and came back to leave this comment <3. This made me realize how much I also value being “present” in other people’s lives via social media. As sad as it sounds, the moment I stopped posting as much was the moment many of my relationships dwindled. I think it’s okay to use socials to keep relationships alive, to keep yourself present in the minds of others, but also, not rely on it as the sole source of connection. It’s so important to take things IRL, while accepting (at least for me) that life online is also part of life, now.

Thank you for coming back and commenting, I'm glad it stuck with you! I agree with you entirely, it's a balancing act of staying connected so we don't feel lonely it disconnected and organising things in person so we can see and touch our loved ones too. I'm just terrible at trying to balance this plus not doomscrolling too.

I totally agree on the balancing thing! And it might sound extreme but regarding the doomscrolling, I actually don’t know my screen-time password 🫢 I outsourced it to my husband lol. So when time runs out, that’s simply it, and I don’t find that I’m missing out on much!

You really outplayed the system with that one! I guess I should give the password to my dog...that's probably the solution since I'm single 😅

It’s kind of sad that it’s the only thing that has worked for me, it really sucks you in 🥲 that and downright forgetting it. Although I wouldn’t recommend that lol

I unfortunately need it for work and networking. These days you swap socials instead of business cards. Thankfully I don't need tik tok for anything so I deleted that yesterday! And I've also gotten in the habit of leaving my phone in the other room so I can be more productive. But I've missed like 6 calls so there's probably no solution.

You’re probably right, we just have to learn to navigate what works and adjust accordingly, even though it all sucks 🥲🤍

I’ve been trying to make sense recently of how I’ve come to feel about social media and you seem to have collected my thoughts and put them to paper. Every now and again I fall in to the habit of scrolling with no thought and lose track of time. I have family that I want to stay in contact with but I’m slowly taking things over to WhatsApp. I’m not sure what the answer is for me yet but there is a shift happening. I hope Substack is true to to us and doesn’t become video heavy.

I'm glad my writing resonated with you! It feels nice to know it's not just me! I think the fact that you're exploring different options is a good sign. I do get worried that Substack will be unrecognisable one day from what it is now, but let's enjoy it while we have it good!
